FAQs

What's required to sign up for your programming service?

  • Annual agreement with a 30-day written cancellation after the first 90 days. Cash plus some barter.  Very competitive, call for price detail and quote.

  • We manage the music, playlists and other elements remotely with the least amount of time required for your staff.

  • A dedicated or shared networked PC is needed for loading playlists and accessing music. Initially, all our music is delivered on an external hard drive.

  • A Broadband connection is needed for upload/download capability.

  • Weekly special programs such as Gospel Jazz or weekly versions of Jazz Lovers require the ability to download large files from the Web.

  • Our weekly shows are one to three hours in length and available for a small fee plus two minutes of commercial time per hour.

  • Services are provided on a "cash only" basis.  Call for rates.

How is your music selected?
  • Our music selection is based on several criteria including: flow, style, tempo, familiarity, artists, and most importantly, "listenability".   We choose music that "wears" well... that is, it needs to provide the most TSL [Time Spent Listening].

  • Multiple playlist rotations are created to maximize variety, daypart, adequate separation of songs and artists... so that listener satisfaction is always primary.

What is your programming philosophy?
  • First of all, our specialty and passion is jazz.  We love it's variety of styles, rhythms, artists and the feeling of joy and artistic expression it presents.
  • We base our overall philosophy on the idea that there are four kinds of jazz:

    • 1) "Live Jazz":  The kind of jazz that features the impromptu, spontaneous solos... which we find too intrusive and difficult for listeners to follow so we tend to avoid long, extremely impromptu jazz recordings.

    • 2) Contemporary or Smooth Jazz:  We avoid this kind of jazz, because of mostly unfamiliar or unidentifiable songs, the lack of variety and the repetitive nature of the arrangements.

    • 3) Classic Jazz: This is the jazz that goes back to the 40's, 50's and 60's.  We avoid playing many of these classic recordings, because they just don't meet the standard of sound quality that today's radios and audio systems demand.  However, we DO play updated versions of many of these classic tunes.

    • 4) What do we play? Our jazz has to sound familiar, be listenable, with tunes that swing and ballads that have a compelling presentation. And, we play many of the classic tunes where the melody is identifiable, the recording is technically acceptable and the arrangement is very listenable. We believe that the Great American Songbook, Broadway show tunes and motion picture soundtrack songs provide the greatest sources that give our jazz its special blend.
